Dr. Brian Cole says Derrick Rose ahead of schedule in his rehab process – NBA News
After Chicago Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose had travelled to Alabama to consult with famous surgeon Dr James Andrews regarding the ACL injury to his left knee, there was speculation that Rose had suffered a setback in his
recovery and was frustrated with his present doctor.
However, Dr Brian Cole, the doctor who performed the ACL surgery on the left knee of Rose, has come on the record to clear the air.
Cole is also the head physician for the Bulls team and said that Rose did not go to Alabama to meet with Dr Andrews, but is working with a therapist at Dr Andrew’s office.
Cole added that the trip had been scheduled before Rose underwent surgery and was part of the plan to tackle his rehab period. He said that Rose did not meet with Dr Andrews during his visit.
“Derrick is ahead of schedule. This was part of the plan established before surgery. This was not a consultation with another physician, but rather it's working with another therapist in collaboration with the Bulls' training staff,”
said Dr Cole.
Cole also denied rumours that Rose had received a setback in his rehab process which could extend his return to the NBA.
“Nothing could be further from the truth. He's ahead of schedule. [The rehab] is a way to keep things fresh for Derrick, to help give him some variety,” added Dr Cole.
Rose suffered an ACL injury to his left ankle in game 1 of Eastern Conference 1st round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. He was sidelined for the rest of the season, dealing a big blow to the Bulls post
season aspirations.
The Bulls were unable to cover for his loss and lost to the 8th seeded Sixers in six games. Rose struggled with injuries throughout the season as well, missing 20 plus games with different injuries.
He returned at the end of the regular season having recovered from his injuries in time for the playoffs, but got injured in the first game of the postseason that brought his postseason to an end.
