do you think the soil would have heated differently if it had been moist rather than dry? why?

Not very much information but... Yes, water absorbs a lot of energy before it heats up (which it is why it is used in cooling systems). The more water soil has it in, the more energy (heat) it will take for it to heat up, dry soil would heat faster.
