  1. At the moment, you're presumably on the 11-15 photocard, which gives you free travel on buses and trams plus child-rate fares for the tube, DLR and London Overground trains.

Things change after the age of 16...

here's the relevant info from the TfL website: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandti...

"Your photocard will expire on 30 September following the end of the academic year during which you turn 16. To continue getting child-rate travel, you can apply for a 16+ Oyster photocard."

Once you turn 18, you'll have two possible paths. If you fulfil all the following criteria you can stay on the 16+ photocard:

You were under 19 on 31 August prior to the start of the current academic year

    You live in London

You are in full-time education* (see the link here for TfL's definition of "full-time":  http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandti... )

Otherwise, you either go onto the 18+ Student Oyster photocard (see here for full info -- http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandti... )

or, if you're no longer studying at all, you join the rest of us on the adult Oystercard scheme... or whatever has replaced it by that time. =D

    Hope that's a help.

  2. When you reach 16, you have to pay the adult rate, but you can still save money with an adult Oyster card.

  3. When you turn 16 you will have to apply for a 16-17 oyster card which will valid until your 18th birthday.

you won't pay the bus if you are on full time education and 50p if you are not.

you will pay less that the adult fare if you put money on your oyster card.

If you travel between zone 3 to zone 1 your sgl monday to friday would cost you £1.20 but only £1 at week end.

when you reach 18 if you are a student (full time that is ) you will have to apply for a 18+ oyster card  and you will only get a 30% discount on you weekly or longer tkts
