Detroit Tigers show interest in Asdrubal Cabrera – MLB Update
Reports are coming in the media that Detroit Tigers, in order to upgrade their infield are showing a lot of interest in Cleveland Indians’ shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.
"Several teams are pursuing shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics. If any one of those teams puts together the right package of young starting pitching, it might be able to pry him loose," ESPN's Jim Bowden reported and explained about the possibility of this trade.
As soon as this news hit in the local media, experts who had speculated in the past at the end of 2012 Major League Baseball season, started commenting again.
These experts, who had earlier speculated about Cabrera as a trump card for the Indians in order to get involved with some trade which will upgrade Indians’ starting rotation are now showing optimism that if Tigers do want a trade, the Indians must carry forward the initiative as well.
Cabrera played last season with a tremendous hitting average of .270 along with 16 homers, 68 RBIs and .338 OBP.
His career hitting average of .279 along with 59 homers, 326 RBIs and .342 OBP is also quite consistent when it comes to Major League’s top shortstops.
According to some other experts, this potential development of trading Cabrera is somewhat a great chance for the Indians to rectify their past season rotation mistakes.
Indians played well early in the 2012 Major League campaign but during the latter stages of the regular season, their declined started due to poor pitching as they could not even qualify for the post-season as well.
Meanwhile, Cabrera could give them a good starting pitcher. Though it is still early to speculate anything, but the way things are shaping up in the offseason, Indians’ executives will be potentially meeting with the Tigers’ management regarding any possible deal.
Tigers on the other hand, are also getting desperate to land some of the good players for a better next season outing. They have already acquired Torii Hunter from the Los Angeles Angels and are now looking forward to include a well established shortstop.
