Detroit Tigers looking to grab infielder Maicer Izturis from Los Angeles Angels -MLB Update
The Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB) have expressed their desire in trading for veteran infielder, Maicer Izturis, according to latest reports released on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, but will the Los Angeles Angels agree on giving up their
player is something Detroit will have to figure out.
It is easy to see that if the Tigers can get their hand on the 31-year-old after successfully dealing in some way with the Angels, he could be used at second and third base for Detroit and there is a strong possibility that he would be an everyday player.
“Second base and third base are probably the two areas that will get the most of our attention,” Tigers president, CEO and general manager, Dave Dombrowski said in early November during his end-of-season remarks. “Sometimes when you talk about the players
we have on our club, you can never have enough good players, but you don't want all star players.”
Izturis is currently coming out of his seventh consecutive regular season with the Los Angeles Angels in which he recorded a .276/.334/.388 line while playing at second and third base along with shortstop.
He will also be earning his final $3.8 million because of his contract expiring after the upcoming season, which will force the Tigers to plan out a strategy if they want to keep the player for past the single season next year or not, that is if they are
successful in their negotiations.
Along with Izturis, the Detroit Tigers are also eyeing players like Aramis Ramirez, Mark Buehrle and Martin Prado, but certainly, they are not the only ones that are going all out in order to grab the attention of those players.
Detroit is looking for more depths in all aspects of their playing in regards to filling all positions with the bigger names around the league. This offseason still has a long way to go, which gives them ample time in order to make the best possible decisions
for the upcoming season.
Getting Maicer Izturis would not only ensure better second and third base coverage, but also long term success.
