Derek Curnow says Judd Trump will rule the world one day – Snooker update
Derek Curnow, who is the owner of Keynsham Snooker Centre, has claimed Judd Trump will rule the world one day. Twenty-one-year-old Trump first picked up a cue at the age of seven in his club and Curnow was the man who guided him to a string of amateur titles.
"I sponsored him for 13 years until he was 20 and during that time he won anything and everything," said Curnow. "In finals he was so clinical and didn't lose many of them. He's got such bottle and if Trumpy hadn't missed that blue to go four frames up on
Monday we probably would have been talking about the world champion and not the runner-up.
He went on to add that, "I'm sure he will win the world title one day – I'm not saying it will be next year – and I hope he keeps his foot on the pedal.”
The Bristolian Ace lost his battle to John Higgins by a frame score of 18-15 in the final match of this year’s Betfred.com World Snooker Championship. However he has gathered an army of fans for himself after the event. He lifted his first ever ranking event’s
trophy in China and since then he has been everywhere. He became the second youngest Crucible finalist, since Stephen Hendry in 1990, and his magnificent attacking play has been admired by many big players in the game.
Dennis Taylor has labelled him as the ‘Greatest potter ever’. Moreover his opponent, Higgins, also admitted in the post-match interview that he was worried even when he was going for safety shots.
The chairman of World Snooker, Barry Hearn, and former three-time World Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan, have also said he is the perfect ambassador for the game.
Trump’s former mentor, Curnow, told the media that there is a recession everywhere in the market these days. However, on the same note he was happy as he believes that the young boy’s success will be a boost to his club since everybody knows from where the
young star started.
