Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade wins against Korea’s Lee Hyun-Il in the Sudirman Cup – Badminton News
Denmark’s top Men’s Singles shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade, remained lucky in beating Korea’s Lee Hyun-Il, in the final group match of the Sudirman Cup 2011, at Qingdao, China, on Wednesday, May 25.
Peter Gade, who is currently placed at the fifth position in the Men’s Singles world rankings, had to struggle very hard against the World Number 15, Lee Hyun.
Right from the start of the first game, both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe as nobody managed a reasonable lead in the opening half of the set, where the Korean was just ahead of the Danish at 11-9.
In the second-half of the opening set, Lee Hyun worked well by playing with precision. His net strokes, coupled with strong pushes and powerful smashes earned him opening set by a 21-15 score.
Pete Gade fought back in the match by playing a planned game in the second set. He remained dominant in the set by maintaining his high speed and levelled the match by grabbing the second game with a 21-18 difference.
The local crowd could not have asked for a better game as both shuttlers put up a great show of quality badminton in the final set. The 34-year-old Danish remained successful at the end, where he clinched the set by a 22-20 margin.
While talking about his performance after winning the match, Peter said, “I needed the support in the end as I was under a lot of pressure. We know each other very well but it's been a long time since we played each other and I think Lee has nothing to lose
in this match.”
He further added, “He played very freely. I was prepared for him but he played really good in the beginning and he made it very difficult for me, and I struggled to find my rhythm. Today was a fighting game. Fight for every point.”
Peter Gade is determined to play better in the upcoming quarter-final match. All quarter-final matches of the Sudirman Cup will be played on May 26, 2011.
