David Wright shines as New York Mets outclass Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4 – MLB Update
New York Mets’ third baseman David Wright delivered some impressive batting as he struck two homers in the Mets’ 8-4 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field in New York on April 24.
Wright expressed his winning moments as, “It was a good homestand for us. We got the 4-2 record kind of a weird way. We'll go as far as our starting pitching carries us. I think it all starts and ends with starting pitching.”
As Wright gave a slow start in the initial games of the current Major League Baseball season but it proved a superb season for Wright when he hit three home runs in the last four games and participated in the continuous six-game wins for the Mets.
Wright exaggerated himself with a huge shot over the fence towards the left-field position against the Diamondbacks’ reliever Josh Collmenter. Jason Pridie struck a solo homer which was considered his first in his baseball career.
Ike Davis improved his hitting streak by hitting an RBI single, but was struck-out with the bases loaded during the eighth inning. He was about to hit the fourth home run of the season but did not connect with the ball. The Mets’ starting pitcher Jonathan
Niese did pretty well as he permitted just three runs on six hits including two earned runs and three strike-outs in seven inning pitches. It was the first win for Niese during this year.
The Mets’ Manager Terry Collins seemed happy with his team’s performance as he said, “It's really good. I think the brightest sign has been our starting pitching. It's really stepped up here and gotten us to where we need to get to. I think it makes everyone
more comfortable.”
On the other side, the Diamondbacks’ starter Armando Galarraga threw some loose pitching as he gave away six runs on just four hits including two earned runs in three inning pitches. He struck out five hitters and also permitted two homers to the Mets. Galarraga
pitched with an ERA of 6.00 right through the innings.
Stephen Drew took two RBIs single on three hits. The Diamondbacks’ Manager Kirk Gibson was pleased with Stephen’s efforts and said, “Stephen's the only guy. He's been solid for us. I like C.Y. I don't think that he's that far off for us, to be honest with
you, but hasn't had good results this whole trip.”
The first two runs of the Diamondbacks came through groundouts while the other two runs were posted when Drew singled and doubled in the sixth and eighth inning, respectively. Chris Young had a poor day with the bat as he had no run with four at-bats. The
four Diamondbacks’ batters were hit out for none.
