David Millar delighted with performance in time trial UCI World Championships 2011 – Cycling Update
The Garmin-Cervelo team’s David Millar showed a good performance and took seventh place in the time trial at the UCI World Championships 2011 on Wednesday, September 21.
In 2010, Millar was able to gain a lead and took second place in the time trial Championship behind Fabian Cancellara and ahead of eventual winner Tony Martin. He was considered a threat by the other competitors after winning the 21st time trial
stage at Giro d’ltalia with a time of 30 minutes and 13 seconds.
Before the race Millar was hoping that he can take a place in the top five but he grabbed seventh place and he was glad with it.
After finishing the stage, Martin told Cyclingnews.com, "I'm happy considering I've had a month with no racing and a new born child coming a few days ago. I would have preferred to have raced before though, although saying that, I obviously preferred having
a baby but the preparation wasn't great."
In the half way point Martin put in a tremendous effort and took a lead ahead of the other cyclists while Millar did not lose his hopes and continued his effort as Martin steamrolled pass the finish line without any difficulty. Millar thought that Martin
was riding well during the race as his pace was high.
Martin also beat the previous 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010 time trial Champion Cancellara with a difference of 1 minute and 15.83 seconds. Although, both of them were riding well in the race but Martin showed his powerful skill to snatch the crown from Fabian.
He added, "Tony has got better and Fabian has come down a peg or two. All athletes go through that. It just happens. Any elite sportsperson will have that."
Recently, Millar also took the overall third place in Eneco Tour and the tenth spot in Tour de Romandie. He also grabbed the second time trial stage of Tour de France. However, if Millar continues his effort then there is possibility that he can win the
next time trial Championship.
