Danish passport validity extension?

I am planning to go abroad for holidays in the last week of this month but my passporsts date is expired and i want to extend it now, but i want to know how the date is extended when the expiry date already is written in the passport and how long does it take for the date to be extended?

Extensions:

In specific cases it is possible to extend an expired passport for up to one year if the current passport is about to expire or has been expired within the last two years. The extension is recommended if Danes need to travel through the US and the time frame does not permit issuing of a new ordinary passport.

By extending an ordinary passport Danes will be allowed to travel through the US without a visa as the passport (if issued after March 1997) is machine readable.

so you need to go to your Danish passport offices to get it extended ,

when is your Holidays (date) ? and where are you going ?

if your holiday is not very close on the date ? it might be better to get a new one
