Dallas Cowboys’ Mike Jenkins will travel to New York, participation against Giants not confirmed yet
Although the Dallas Cowboys are yet to decide the status of their cornerback Mike Jenkins for the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season opener against New York Giants, the player is going to accompany the team to New York.
Cowboys have not officially ruled Jenkins out of the game and might introduce him on the field against Giants on rotation basis, though no official announcement has been made in this regard.
According to the details present on the team’s website, the player has confirmed that he will travel to New York, but he, too, does not know about his status for the game. Jenkins said after practice session on Monday:
“I’m travelling. But I don’t really know. I’m going to try to go out and warm up, and we’ll see.”
Jenkins was unable to train this offseason as he was dealing with a shoulder injury that kept him out of the entire organised team activities (OTAs). He missed practice sessions and training camps while the cornerback was even unable to play the preseason
games.
He was able to take the field recently as he practised with his teammates as a limited participant.
There were reports that Jenkins might not be able to make it to the game against Giants as despite being fit now he lacks the due training and practice.
However, many reports suggested that the cornerback might not need any practice and he would be ready to go. Whatever the case is, the Cowboys are yet to make any announcement for the game against Giants as far as Jenkins’ status is concerned.
A day earlier, the player claimed that he had recovered completely from the injury and that it was not bothering him anymore. The cornerback said of his shoulder:
“I don’t think nothing’s going to happen to it. It’s restructured. It’s not coming out. It’s a mental thing, as far as hitting. I may get a little pain in there, but that’s just football.”
A week earlier, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones had also expressed concerns over Jenkins’ health, but Jones clearly stated that he had no issues as far as Jenkins’ lack of training was concerned. The owner said about Jenkins:
“He’s in shape. I think he’s in real shape. I could conjure up a scenario where he could help us against the Giants for sure.”
