Question:

Continental Academy: A legit high school diploma?

In 2005, I graduated from this home-study institution feeling very proud of my accomplishment. After recent studies though, I have found that it wasn't accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Later, in March 2006, they received the right accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools and The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation. I haven't been rejected by any colleges, but from researching, some people have, one college even laughed in a guys face. My mother looks down on me, she thinks that my diploma doesn't mean anything. Anything that I have to write my education on she always has something bad to say, like "You better hope they accept that diploma" or "You didn't even finish high school". It makes me depressed, because I am 20 going on 21, and I would be ashamed to have to start all over. It makes me feel that I can't go on with my life with the doubt of my diploma. I just want to know, what should I do?

  1. Yes. Homeschooling is legal in all 50 states. Their OUTREACH and SEAL programs consist of 28 courses that equals 24 credits. Keep in mind, it is your responsibility to meet the admissions requirements for homeschoolers that the college has established. If you have good grades, high SAT and/or ACT test scores and meet the specific admissions requirements for homeschoolers, you have a very good chance of being accepted into the college of your choice. I used Continental Academy’s SEAL program curriculum to teach my two children and they are currently attending college. Good luck!

  2. I graduated last month from Continental Academy. Bramson College accepted me and I will start my college classes this upcoming January. Continental Academy’s online program was excellent.

  3. I have graduated in 2004. I have a bachelor's from Strayer University, a regionally accredited university. Also, got my commission as Second Lieutenant from the military, and I am taking my Master from Penn State University. Too bad they lost the accreditation.

  5. I would recommend that you go to a psychiatrist. Obviously, you do not have a problem and you are creating a problem in your mind. The best education is a classroom environment and you took a short cut. Luckily, this high school Continental Academy gave you an opportunity to earn your high school diploma and you were able to continue your education and take college classes. Now you are trashing the high school that gave you the opportunity to earn your high school diploma. In my opinion, if it wasn’t for Continental Academy, you would have never graduated from high school. It’s obvious that you are immature, have no character, have no pride, and have no loyalty. Moreover, you fail to take responsibility for choosing Continental Academy. It was YOUR choice. You definitely need professional help from a psychologist or psychiatrist.

  6.  same thing here!  and whats crappy is it was devry university who even  refferred me to this school. I pay the 350 dollars plus graduation fee of 26 dollars . get into devry for about  months then in april devry is withdrawing me because they find out the continental has lost accreditation! I  mean really this is rediculous on devry's end . but I will not step foot back into devry, and once I get mt ged I am going to  CUNY

  7. I agree with the Texas Tech student. This is B.S., Continental is definitely not a diploma mill. I had to bust my a*s and take 28 courses to graduate from Continental Academy. There are no short cuts. If you want to go to college you have to take a high school program that is completed on a course by course basis. I would recommend taking a look at their outreach program which is online. A homeschooling support group recommended Continental to me. They have a quality onine curriculum.

  8. Diploma mill.  Contact your state attorney general's office if you doubt it. They will be glad you contacted them.

  9. this is b.s
    contenental academy is accredited
i just got into texas tech.

  10. You are asking what should you do. Stop paying attention to your mother’s negative comments. You should get a job that requires proof of earning a high school diploma because you did earn a high school diploma and continue your college education (you have stated that colleges have accepted your Continental Academy high school credential with no problem). You do not have a problem. You are creating a problem in your mind with your mom’s negative comments.

In terms of your high school not being recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, it is clear that you do not know the facts.  The U.S. Department of Education does not have the authority to accredit private or public elementary or secondary schools, and the Department does NOT recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of private or public elementary and secondary schools. However, the U.S. Department of Education does recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of institutions of higher (postsecondary) education. If an accrediting body which is recognized by the Department for higher education also accredits elementary and secondary schools, the Department's recognition applies ONLY to the agency's accreditation of postsecondary institutions. Therefore, SACS is NOT recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for the accreditation of public or private elementary or secondary schools. SACS is a PRIVATE COMPANY – NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY.  You simply need to grow up, get a job, continue your college education, be thankful that you earned your high school diploma, and stop paying attention to your mother’s negative comments. Here is the link from the official web site of the U.S. Department of Education for your awareness:

  11. They were legit prior to Dec. 09. I just got my diploma from there in April 2010 and I can't get into any college around here. It's truly disappointing. You're better off getting a GED. That's what I'm doing now.

  12. I have a continental academy High School diploma and also finished a year in a private university with a 4.0 gpa. I am now looking to transfer my credits and I am getting rejected from colleges, being told to go get a ged even WITH a year of Uni. finished!!! So I hear you, on this one.

  13. Continental Academy withdrew their accredidation on December 4th. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL. It is a waste of your money. Get a GED, they are accepted everywhere and are accredited by the Department of Education.
