Cherry Vine gets the best odds for Scottish Leader Handicap Hurdle
Cherry Vine has the best odds for winning the Scottish Leader Handicap Hurdle at Ayr in England on Friday, March 9, 2012. The winner of the class-5 event will be awarded with cash prize of £1,779.
The 3 mile 110 yard event is scheduled to start at 3:55 GMT and 11 entries have been confirmed for it. The names of these runners are: Cherry Vine, Watercolours, Bollin Fiona, Harrys Whim, Its Tough, Easter Vic, Stormion, Hooky´s Diamond, Isla Patriot, I
Witness and No Way Hozay.
The bookmakers believe that Cherry Vine will manage to win the race today, even though she has no victories over hurdles until now. She has taken part in three of such events and does not even have a top three finish in her career.
The six-year-old mare ended up ninth in her last appearance at Hereford and the punters might not be encouraged to place their bets on her victory.
However, Kim Bailey’s trainee has been given the best odds because of her jockey, Jason Maguire. The veteran has won 245 races over hurdles and has a fantastic strike rate. He is one of the best in the business and will be looking forward to make a solid
impression at Ayr today.
Another mare, who has got pretty decent odds for winning at Ayr, is Watercolours. Although she has also been unable to win any hurdle in her career, she does have a few decent finishes to her name.
The seven-year-old runner ended up as runner up once whereas she has three third place finishes to her name as well. Her trainer, Jim Goldie, will be hoping that her runner breaks the shackles today.
Watercolours will be partnered by Henry Brooke, who is relatively new to the sport and will be eying a strong show.
Further down, Bollin Fiona does have one victory over hurdles to her name. She has participated in 18 of such events, which shows that her strike rate is not impressive at all. However, she has a very good chance of winning today, as her recent form has
not been that bad.
The eight-year-old mare, trained by Donald Whillans, will be ridden by Callum Whillans at Ayr today.
It will be tough for the rest of the runners to fight for victory, as the real battle will be between the top three favourites.
