Question

I despsrately need help with my assignment asap!

I've been given molecular structures of two penicillin-like compounds. One has a C-C-N ring, the other a C-C-C-C-N ring.

I need to note which of these two compounds would be more effective than penicillin against bacteria.

I also need to explain how i arrived at my decision!

I'm thinking that as penicillin's b-lactam ring is important in its action against bacteria, would this mean that the added 4 carbon & 1 nitrogen would be more effective?!

I would be so grateful if anyone can offer me assistance in this section of my assignment.
