Charity Tournament: in Memory of Late Scottish Golfer, Adam Hunter
A charity tournament is being held in the memory of the late golfer and coach, Adam Hunter. The purpose of the fund raiser is to raise funds for 'Friends of the Beatson' charity.
Hunter turned professional in the year 1984. He had a bad start to his career as he lost his privileges to play in the European Open in the year 1986.
He came back in 1990 and from that point on, played quite consistently, earning a sufficient amount of money.
Hunter’s career also includes a win in the Portuguese Open in the year 1995 and a win in the Northern Open 1987, a non-tour event.
Apart from being a professional golfer, hunter was also a coach. His greatest coaching moment was when Paul Lawrie bagged the Open Championship 1999 at Carnoustie under his guidance.
In October 2011, Hunter died due to leukemia at the Beatson Oncology Centre. He fought the disease for two years. Unfortunately he was not able to overcome the disease. At the time, he was only 48 years old.
In the memory of the Scottish golfer, his friends are organizing a pro-am golf tournament. This event is going to take place on the 5th of October.
There are two purposes of this tournament, to honour Adam Hunter and to raise funds for Beatson Oncology Centre, the centre that treated him.
Many well known people in the world of golf are organizing this tournament. The list includes professional golfers Stephen McAllister, Alan Tait, Scottish PGA Secretary Michael MacDougall and former sports broadcaster Brian Donald.
McAllister said, “Adam was not only a brilliant golfer; he was also a special person and a very good friend. We were determined to stage an event to celebrate his life and his achievements, as well as saying thanks and giving something back to the Beatson
where he was cared for so well”.
“We have all worked together to create that event which we hope will provide a fitting tribute to Adam. There has been a terrific response from the Scottish golf community so far and we look forward to selling the remaining places to allow us to raise as
much money for the Beatson as we can,” he added.
The event includes not only a day of golf but also prize-giving dinner, over night accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner and an auction.
