North Zone 451 v Central Zone 442/9 (145.0 ov) - Central Zone trail by 9 runs with 1 wicket remaining in the 1st innings
The penultimate day of the ongoing four-day Duleep Trophy’s 2nd Semi-Final belonged to Central Zone, where they ended the day by piling 442 runs for the loss of nine wickets, trailing by only nine runs to North Zone’s first innings score of 451, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792.
After getting hammered for a massive total and then losing five wickets for only 146, the game looked all over for Central Zone. However, M Kaif and M Rawat avoided this predicament by bolstering a fantastic resistance against their opposition.
The duo launched an impressive batting onslaught and took the score to 219, as they halted the bowlers from dominating the day.
Finally the commendable partnership met its end on the demise of Kaif, who was removed by Mishra on 63.
Rawat was then joined by B Kumar, and while North sought a moment to comeback by grabbing a few more wickets, Central Zone had other plans as the two batsmen forged another impressive partnership by taking the score to 251 after which Rawat was shown the door by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dhawan-c82968. The batsman mustered an innings of 71 before hitting the showers.
It was then time for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143 to join the party and with B Kumar batting superbly at the other end, the new batsman on the crease needed to stay on the wicket for as long as possible.
With the two batsmen looking in good form, Mishra struck just at the right time for his team by nabbing the wicket of P Kumar, who perished after scoring 27 runs.
Central Zone knew what was at stake here as they were ready to bat right till the end. While M Kartik held his corner, B Kumar continued his ruthless batting.
With Kartik perishing after hammering 22, Kumar stayed unbeaten on 120 alongside RR Singh on 21 at the end of the day’s play.
