Carolina Hurricanes fail to make comeback, lose against New Jersey Devils 4-2 -NHL Match Update
New Jersey took an early lead but Carolina Hurricanes made a near comeback and overtook Devils during the second period only to lose for the third straight time, 4-2, on Monday night, October 10, at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, United States.
Devils earned their first two points of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as captain, Zach Parise led the team with two points, both goals.
Everybody knows how New Jersey performed last season and trying to put that behind them, they do not talk about it at all.
"We don't talk about it", Parise said of last season. "Everyone knows it was just tough for everybody. We don't sit here and say, 'We have to start better than last year.' We just have to play and do the right things and we'll be a good team. We're not concerned
about that".
Parise played only 13 games last season and potted six points (3 goals, 3 assists), scoring his first two goals since going out in nearly a year ago, he feels much better and more confident than ever before.
"Legs-wise, conditioning-wise, I feel great", Parise said, making a comeback after suffering a season ending knee-injury. "I have no doubts that I'll get back to the same, even better than I was before. It takes time. It's a long time being away from the
game“.
Four minutes into the first period, Parise scored the inaugurating goal to put New Jersey on the scoreboard ahead of Carolina.
Carolina’s, Alexei Ponikarovsky, levelled the match nearly midway through the second period only to be answered by Devils, Mark Fayne, less than a minute later. Chad LaRose scored off a pass by Jeff Skinner and closed the period with both teams standing
tied, 2-2.
Ilya Kovalchuk made the game-winner to break the tie, while Zach Parise scored his second during a late power play opportunity with less than two minutes remaining, extending the lead out of reach.
New Jersey Devils play their last home game before taking off against Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, October 13. Carolina Hurricanes return home to face Stanley Cup defending champions, Boston Bruins, a day earlier on Wednesday.
