Carlo Ancelotti keen to stay at Stamford Bridge, thinks Chelsea could have done better this season

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed he felt his side could have performed much better this season, as they look to end up without any silverware. There is stark comparison from last season when the Blues claimed the domestic double; English Premier League and the FA Cup.
This season the Blues suffered a mid-season slump which caused them to exit the Carling Cup and FA Cup competitions early on in the season. Their lead at the top of the Premier League followed shortly, along with elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
While the exit from the Carling Cup and FA Cup would have been forgiven by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 owner Roman Abramovich, the failure to claim the Premier League and the Champions League crown is unforgivable, and will most likely to lead to Ancelotti getting sacked at the end of the season.
The former AC Milan manager has expressed his desire to remain at Chelsea time and time again, but after the defeat to Manchester United admitted the decision was not up to him. When asked about the extremely disappointing season, he was certain the Blues could have done better.
Ancelotti admitted his side could have done better against Manchester United yesterday and overall in the season. He said while speaking to reporters, “I don't know what the owner thinks about the season but in my opinion we could have done better.”
There are a host of reasons which have said to cause the Blues decline this season, two of the most obvious ones being the sacking of assistant coach Ray Wilkins early on in the season and the ageing squad. Whatever the reason, the Blues have failed to win a trophy this season.
There are expected to be repercussions, the most obvious ones being the sacking of Ancelotti at the end of the season. The Blues boss admitted he had failed to lead the Blues to success this season, but said that last season should not be forgotten.
The Italian said this was a disappointment as compared to the last one, he continued, “I am honest to say that Chelsea didn't do its best this season but sometimes that can happen. Last season we had a fantastic season, this year it was a little bit different.”
In his first season, Ancelotti managed to do very well with the existing squad and no additions. It was the same ageing squad that went on to claim the clubs very first domestic double. It was in his second season that Ancelotti bought in Brazilian midfielder Ramires and former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yossi-Benayoun-c37520.
When Abramovich was not satisfied with the progress of the team, he spent an astronomical amount of £73 million to bring in 27-year-old striker Fernando Torres and 23-year-old defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542. While the latter has been impressive, Torres has been a flop.
His comparisons to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andriy-Shevchenko-c6014 are undeniable, but the Italian boss has supported the Spaniard throughout this tough period. With talks going on of an impending exodus at Stamford Bridge, Ancelotti claimed there was no need of drastic changes.
The Blues boss said, “This year we bought [David] Luiz, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 who are all fantastic players and this was enough for the future. I don't think this team needs to have a lot of movement and now is not the right time.”
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 are all on the wrong side of 30 and have been linked with a move away at the end of the season. The Italian boss revealed he felt no major changes were needed in the side, which had faltered this season.
According to Ancelotti, the arrival of Luiz, Ramires and Torres will be enough to last the Blues the next season, despite Abramovich claiming he is willing to give an estimated £80 million for spending in the upcoming summer transfer window.
