Canada’s basketball team preparing for the FIBA Americas: Basketball News
Canada’s national basketball team is preparing hard to qualify for the upcoming Olympics in London. The team is set to play a series of practice games around the world. After summing up a hectic training camp in their own country,
they are now planning to attend a three-game warm-up series in Brazil.
Canadian team will play against Brazil on coming Wednesday at the Tuto Marchnad Cup followed by a game against Puerto Rico. They will play their final against the Dominican Republic. The Brazilian national basketball team will
then play the opening game of FIBA America against Canada.
Canada’s basketball team is also heading to Argentina in near future to play this year’s FIBA America.  This tournament will begin on 30th August which is essential for Canada’s basketball team to try to advance into
the London Olympics in 2012. The top two teams of FIBA America will automatically qualify for the next big games in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, the remaining three positions will play for the qualifiers to advance through to the Olympics.
Canada’s national team player Levon Kendill, who has recently achieved a very unique honour in Canada’s basketball history, told the media about his team’s preparation for the next Olympics. Kendall, who has played 100th
game for Canada, also explained with total brief about the benefit they are carrying as they attended the training camp in Canada.
Kendall said, “(Camp) has been really good, we had a little bit of an up-and-down exhibition tour (the team dropped five-of-six friendlies in Europe before beating Belgium twice in Canada), we were missing some guys, some guys
were hurt so it was a little bit discouraging, But it was really good to come back into camp with the guys healthy ... the guys are pretty optimistic and we’ve made some promising strides. It’s going to be tough, we’re playing against the main competitors,
but it’s always a good opportunity to see where you’re at.”
The upcoming three game series is very essential for Canada followed by the next FIBA competition is also have great importance ahead. The team’s management is also aware of the fact as they had never qualified for the Olympics
in the past three attempts and only if their roster plays with a big heart and dedication in the FIBA Americas, they have a chance to qualify for the next Olympic Games.
