While most of the people living on the Malay peninsula are descended form Malays there are minorities who speak other older Austronesian languages and there are people descended from Arab and Chinese traders. Some of the people descended from Chinese traders only speak Malay the Nonyas and Babas.

Other Chinese descendants are multilingual or use a chinese dialect at home and identify themselves as Malay chinese.

Finally there are Malays of Indian descendant Hindu and Muslim whose ancestors came over in the 19th century.

So one country several groups and languages but Malay dominates.
