I wanted to purchase a vehicle from a private party. however im only 19 so the insurance would be quite pricy for me if i register the car under my name. so i rather have the car registered under my mom's name so the insurance can be under her name as well so its cheaper. my mom is always busy all week long. i wonder if i can pay the seller of the car first and only have the seller sign the bill of sale and back of the title transfer and take the car. then i can have my mom sign it at home when shes not busy and bring it to the dmv to register when shes not busy. i live in new york state is there any extra legal paperwork i have to do?

  1. I think you can do what you are proposing.  Just Make sure Mom will put it her name before you do the transaction.
