Bryce Harper’s witty response to reporter spreads like a wild fire over Web - MLB News
A reporter who tried to unsettle the rookie outfielder Bryce Harper with a question was tamed with a witty answer from the 19-year old Major Leaguer. Harper is playing with the Washington Nationals, as part of their three match series against Toronto Blue
Jays in Toronto, Ontario.
In Canada the drinking age is 19, as opposed to 21 in United States. Regardless of the age, the fact Harper belongs to the Mormon religion, which prohibits drinking, he was not the right teenager to talk about beer.
The reporter, while the questions were being put, all of a sudden perplexed Harper with something weird.
Trying to know whether Harper will drink, which is lawful for his age as per Ontario’s laws, after hitting a mammoth home run in the last game. For a rookie, who has yet to master the art of handling unpleasant situations in baseball, the question could
easily leave Harper confused.
While the situation prevailed, one was fearful that outfielder will dither and will not be able to manage appropriate response, to calm the proceedings down.
Much to a surprise of everyone, the manner in which he handled question was remarkable. Sending the reporter down to his seat in a befitting style, he uttered that it is a clown question and he will not be unveiling anything to him.
"I'm not answering that," Harper said. "That's a clown question, bro."
Ever since Harper has made debut in the Major League, he is being put to a real test.
Few days after he joined the Nationals’ line-up, he was intimidated by the Philadelphia Phillies’ ace Cole Hamels. Taking advantage of the inexperience of Harper, Hamels targeted his back and struck him there, wreaking a spate of pain on the body.
The incident was followed by outcry from Nationals, in particular their General Manager Mike Rizzo, who was later penalised by the Major League Baseball, for going over the top in criticising Hamels.
Harper will be proud of his ability to have come out successful, from most of the tests he has faced so far.
Task at-hand for Harper is to keep supplying hits and become an important link in the success of his team's offence.
