Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean silences critics with win over Newcastle United
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean admitted he was hoping his side’s 4-3 win over Newcastle United in the Carling Cup had silenced his critics. After a terrible start to the new season, Blackburn Rovers find themselves at the bottom of the table with just
five points from the first nine games.
However, they went on to surprisingly defeat the Magpies in the League Cup which sees them through to the next round. Newcastle United have until now been unbeaten in the Premier League and are in the top four, tied on points with third place http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“I hope that silences some of the critics.
Anybody who was there last night looking to criticise us would see we took the scalp of a very, very good Newcastle side and we are the first team to beat them this season.”
The fact that it was Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 who delivered Newcastle United’s first defeat of the season counted for something, according to Kean. The win for his side in the cup competition comes at a time when a section of the supporters have been calling for
his removal.
The win proves that the team is on their way up and will now be aiming for a win when they travel to Norwich City over the weekend. Kean revealed that he had faith in his team and expected them to do better as the season progressed.
He revealed:
“We have exciting players in the wide areas and we have young dynamic players so we will always create the chances and now we are going to be working our socks off for a clean sheet.”
Having proved that they have the capability to score goals, Kean urged them to prove that they possessed the capacity to maintain a clean sheet. The Scotsman was certain his side would do better in the upcoming fixtures, especially the Premier League.
Instead of just focusing on older, experienced players, Kean is interested in developing younger players for the future. One of such players is Jason Lowe, the 19-year-old midfielder, who is currently contracted to the club until 2016.
Kean said:
“I'm delighted with his progress, Stuart Pearce is as well for the under-21s, and I believe he has a long and successful career ahead of him.”
