Well, when there is nothing specific that you know she may want, gift cards are always safe. That way you know she gets something she wants. You could even put it in a cute package, along with some candy.

I know when I was 11, I liked getting little gift baskets, that had a theme. My favorite was an art themed gift basket. It had all kinds of things-crayons, markers, colored paper, etc.

If you literally have NO idea at all what she's interested in, gift cards are your safest bet. A card for a bookstore, a music store, or a teen clothing store is versatile and lets her spend the money on what she likes. Personally, I have always loved receiving gift cards as presents, even as a child. It's slightly more thoughtful than cash, but it lets you choose your own gift.

On the other hand, if you have a pretty good idea of the kinds of things she likes, perhaps you could call her mom and ask what size clothes she wears, then pick out some cute clothes. Inexpensive jewelry might also be appreciated, or perhaps some things like nail polish and spray glitter.

Get something creative for her...like something crafty that she can make.  Walmart, Menards, most craft stores normally has all kinds of project kits to do for all ages.

My 11 year old girl just moved into the iPod phase, so she love iTunes cards -- puts her in control of what she listens to. As the previous person said, DS games are terrific as well.

My daughter is also really into sports -- she's involved in soccer, basketball, softball, swimming. It is now "cool" for her to wear sport team logs, football jerseys, etc.

And she just asked (believe it ir not) for Converse All Stars (yes the ones from 30 years ago) -- they are back in "style."

Arts and crafts are still a good "throw-in" gift, especially more teen-oriented jewelry kits.
