West Ham United have signed 32-year-old South African forward Benni McCarthy from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee. McCarthy had been at Ewood Park for three-and-a-half years, scoring 36 goals in 95 Premier League games, and has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at with the East Londoners. However, he has failed to impress at Blackburn in recent seasons, and could be looked at as a gamble by the new Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold.
