  3. Here is a simple and quick french toast recipe that you would like. It is a favorite at my place

  4. You can make it without cinnamon and vanilla, no problem.  Other spices you can try if you like are cardamom or nutmeg.  All spices do is add a bit of flavour that you or your family/guests might like.

More important is the bread.  Use fresh if possible but it's also good to use up bread that's a bit stale.  Egg bread, challah, raisin bread, sunflower bread are all pretty good options.

Then of course you need eggs and a dash of milk.  Let the bread really soak up the egg mixture so it's juicy inside.  It should almost be like custard on the inside and a bit crisp on the outside.

    Now I'm hungry!

  5. You need  bread, eggs, milk and sugar to make a basic french toast. The cinnamon and vanilla are just flavorings. You can use anything for you would like to flavor your batter. Orange zest or juice or a little spiced rum would be yummy if you have it on hand.

    3 eggs

    3/4 cup milk

  10. Egg and bread!

  11. beat up an egg in some milk. dip the bread in it and fry it .  I never put vanilla in it..now I wonder if Ive messed up all these years LOL

    It always tastes good.

I dont like a lot of cinnamon on mine..but Ive never made it without

  12. There must be close to 1000 recipes for french toast.

    Try this one:

Use french bread cut in slices about 2" wide.  Between the slices, cut another slice at 1".   Make sure this slice goes only half way down the bread.

Cut a 3 oz. square of Philly Cream Cheese into 9 cubes.  Put one cube and a tablespoon of raspberry jam into the pocket of each piece of french bread.   If you want, you can put a small slice or two of banana in the pocket of the bread as well.

Dip the stuffed bread in a mixture of 1 egg mixed with 1/4 cup whipping cream or 1/2 and 1/2.  Cover the entire piece of bread with the egg mixture.  Put on a moderately hot griddle and flip when brown.  Don't hurry the process as you need to give the cream cheese and jam time to melt and mix together.  Do not flip the bread more than once.  That makes it get hard on one side as it heats/cools/heats/cools.

Serve with a little jam which has been melted in the microwave, or your favorite syrup.

You can add richness by adding the vanilla to the egg/milk mixture, but there's no need.

    This is really, really delicious.

  13. You don't need the vanilla or cinnaomn unless you are mekking like bread pudding.

    Regular french toast needs only:

Stale bread(french bread lof is best)

    eggs

    milk

    sugar

    salt.

    powdered sugar

syrup and fruit preserves for the top.

    Oil to fry

If you want to stuff in you need cream, cheese strawberries preserves(or peach, berry, pineapple or fresh banana etc) and to cut your bread about 1 1/2 inch thick

    Video recipe and technique

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1btGBuI1q...

2 slices thick-cut cinnamon bread (most thick-sliced breads will work)

    2 tbs whipped cream cheese

    1/4 c + 2 tbs strawberry preserves

2 large strawberries, one thinly sliced

    1 egg

splash of cream or half & half

    dash of cinnamon

    butter for cooking

    sprinkle of powdered sugar

Spread cream cheese on one slice of bread, place sliced strawberry evenly over top, carefully spread 2 tbs strawberry preserves over cream cheese and strawberry. Top with second bread slice, forming sandwich.

Whisk egg, cream and cinnamon together in shallow dish/pan.

Preheat electric griddle to 275E (may also use frying pan).

While griddle is heating, soak French Toast sandwich in egg mixture, evenly coating all sides.

Add butter to heated griddle and toast sandwich on all sides. Cook until cream cheese is melted and sandwich is evenly browned. Turn up heat on griddle to 350E once cream cheese is melted to get crispy toast.

Warm 1/4 c strawberry preserves in microwave (or on stove top).

Serving suggestion: Place French Toast on plate and drizzle warmed preserves over top. Garnish with remaining strawberry. (Tip- slice strawberry on diagonal from crown to tip without separating and fan strawberry out.) Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

  14. Yeah it wont be quite as good but it will work. Just use egg a splash of milk and bread.

  15. Eggs and the Bread are the basics, unless you want to add the frypan.
