Spanish Champions, Barcelona, have been crowned Champions of Europe. The Catalans won the 2011 UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United on Saturday. The match between two of the biggest clubs in the world hardly turned out as the spectacle everyone
predicted. Barcelona dominated the entire contest and romped to a comfortable 3-1 win on the night.
Manchester United started the match better of the two sides, but as they have done so often this season, Barcelona started to take control as the match half wore on. After enduring sustained pressure in the opening ten minutes from the Barclays Premier League
champions, the Catalans suddenly found their rhythm.
From then on, it was mostly one way traffic. Once Barcelona got into their groove, the Red Devils looked powerless to stop them. Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta were wreaking havoc with the Manchester United defensive line, and it was the former’s through
ball that set http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231, and he made no mistake from close range.
The writing seemed to be on the wall for Manchester United, but Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 goal that came against the run of play. The Red Devils held on until the half-time whistle, as both teams went into the interval
with the scores still locked at 1-1.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s pep talk seemingly had no effect. Barcelona started the second half in the same way as they left off in the first. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 all but wrapped up the contest
with a superb curling shot that left the United keeper with no chance.
Barcelona comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to earn their second Champions League title in three years. Both of those triumphs have come at the expense of Manchester United.
Barcelona boss, Pep Guardiola, had earlier denied claims that the current squad was one of the strongest in the history of football, but if their performance in the Champions League final was anything to go by, even Guardiola may be forced to reconsider.
