Bangladesh Women v South Africa Women – South Africa Women tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 (3rd ODI) – Match Recap
An intense bowling attack launched by the South Africa Women enabled them to claim a 7-wicket win over the Bangladesh Women at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on September 9 – a victory which saw them securing the 3-match ODI series 2-1, during
their ongoing tour of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Women won the toss and elected to bat first. However, not a single bowler from the South Africa Women team went wicketless, with Player of the Match Shabnim http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dane-van-Niekerk-c52216 (7-0-24-2), Marizanne
Kapp (5-2-5-2), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Susanna-Maria-Benade-c92039 (7-3-17-1).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trisha-Chetty-c94414 off Benade in the very first over, and the latter bowled by Kapp in
the second over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salma-Khatun-c88162 was the highest partnership on her side.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lata-Mondal-c72230 (1), Farzana Haque (2), Salma Khatun (3), and wicketkeeper Nuzhat Tasnia (2) – crumbled without much of a fight.
By this point, in the 17th over, the Bangladesh Women were at 36 for 7, but the lower order failed to rise to the challenge of bringing the score up to a respectable total. Ritu Moni (8), Tazia Akhter (0), and Khadija Tul Kubra (5) remained unremarkable,
and by the 25th over, the Bangladesh Women finished, all out, at a mere 60.
The South Africa Women breezed through the 61-run chase, and despite the efforts of Salma Khatun (8.4-2-20-2) and Khadija Tul Kubra (4-0-16-1), the team easily reached 61, led by Chetty, who completed nearly half the chase.
Chetty (30*) opened the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shandre-Alvida-Fritz-c89646 (1), but the partnership between the two yielded only 5 runs, after which the latter was caught out by Rumana Ahmed off Salma Khatun.
Benade (21) proved a far more able partner for Chetty, and the two joined forces for a 40-run 2nd-wicket stand, which got their team up to 45 by the 14th over. Benade was then sent packing by Salma Khatun, and her successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alison-Lucille-Hodgkinson-c43649
(1) followed her in the 18th over, caught out by Sharmin Akhter off Khadija Tul Kubra.
However, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for longer, and her unbeaten 14-run stand with Chetty got the team easily over the finish line, enabling them to reach 61, with 7 wickets and 176 deliveries still remaining, and
clinch an ODI series win.
