Automatic shotgun legal?

I shot an automatic revolving shotgun that a friend of mine owned yesterday. It was like a revolver, held 25 shotgun shells and emptied all 25 in a few seconds.

It knocked me on my butt!!

What use is such a weapon? Can you use it for hunting?

  1. sounds like the "streetsweeper" from a few years ago.

Did you pull the trigger for each shot? Thats semi auto.

If it fired until the trigger was released your freind is A: hooked up with full auto paperwork form the BATF or B , a potential felon of he gets caught with this thing.

Not much use for hunting... if you miss with shot 1 not much in the woods stands and waits for shot 2-25.

  2. Sorry guys but I'm gonna call catfish on this one

Until the asker is willing to provide some specifics his story just doesn't ring true

We seem to be getting a lot of these

"should this be legal" types questions lately that are obviously biased towards a resounding "no"

  3. Fully automatic weapons are not legal for hunting in any of the US States the last time I checked.  If you check the hunting rules, this is usually clearly spelled out.    If anyone wishes to contradict this statement, please link to the state's hunting rules which do not prohibit it.

Sounds like your friend must be a Class III dealer.  Striker-12/Streetsweeper shotguns were semiautomatic.  The relatively new AA-12 that is seen on Future Weapons and YouTube is nearly recoiless with almost no felt recoil compared to any other conventional shotgun.  The newer revolving cylinder fully automatic shotguns are not considered "transferrable" as they were manufactured after the 1986 ban.  You would have to be a dealer with a post-sample or a government organization to have one.

As Americans, we do not need a reason to own a fully automatic weapon.  Collecting and recreational shooting is a perfectly legitimate reason to own any firearm, as is self defense and defense of your family and property.  Most states do not exceed Federal law which allows US citizens to own transferrable machine guns.

  4. It's a streetsweeper and it's illegal unless you have paid the proper fees and/of got the correct liscencing. The one that comes to mind is an AA12. It also has to be registered with the criminal organization BAFTE.

  5. Sounds like a street-sweeper for government/LE use only (except for a few exceptions which I don't care to go into here).

  6. according to the ATF it is considered a "destructive device"  It is illegal. I know, I looked into buying one myself.  If you are licensed for it you can own one, but that is difficult.  Also if you have a license you are giving the ATF complete access to your home.  It is illegal to hunt with it and the only use is to have fun shooting paper and clays.  It is also good protection against terrorists.

  7. its called a "street sweeper" and is used in the military mostly. could you hunt with it i guess if you wanted to..most ppl  buy them for a collection
