Australia’s middle-order batsman Mike Hussey doubtful for 2011 World Cup
Australia’s middle-order batsman Mike Hussey’s inclusion in the 2011 World Cup squad is shrouded with uncertainty. It has been revealed that the Australian star has suffered a hamstring tear and he might not be able to recover
in time for the World Cup.
The World Cup begins on the 19th of February and is jointly hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are expected to announce their 15-man squad within the current week. Doubts over Hussey’s
fitness will not go down well with the Australian selectors.
Hussey sustained the injury while batting during Australia’s six-wicket win in the first One-Day International (ODI) of a seven-match series against England. Scans have confirmed that the left-handed batsman has ripped part of
a tendon off the bone near the gluteus muscle on the upper thigh in his left leg.
Australian team physiotherapist http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 stated, “Hussey has sustained a significant left hamstring injury. The course of management for this injury will be determined in the next 24 hours.”
Hussey expressed his desire to be part of the World Cup squad before the results of the scan were discovered. He said, “Our main focus is trying to get prepared for that World Cup, that is my main focus as well and I would really
like to be part of that. If that meant missing a couple of games as a precaution then I am sure that is an option we would have to look at."
Hussey was the lone shining star in the Australian batting line-up during their humiliating surrender of the Ashes series. His consistency in the middle order has also been an essential part of Australia’s ODI team.
His performance in the semifinal against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the 2010 T20 World Cup speaks volumes of his reliability in the limited-over version of the game. Hussey managed to score 17 runs of the last over of the match to put Australia
through to the final. They eventually lost the tournament to archrivals England.
It is believed that Hussey might just be able to make it to the initial 15-man squad; however, if he fails to gain fitness in time for the World Cup he will be replaced by another player.
Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting is also suffering from an injury but is expected to participate in the World Cup. Australian cricket fans will be hoping that both Ponting and Hussey attain full fitness before the grand tournament
as they will be essential to the Australia’s chances of retaining their World Cup title.
