  1. Never do anything from Les Miserables. The songs are over used and unless you have great voice control in addition to a great voice it is not a good idea.

  2. most auditions actually do want things from musicals and broadways. Just sayin.

  3. pray or down to earth by Justin Bieber <3

also thank you for the music by Amanda Seyfried

    breakeven.....the fray?

  4. breathe (2am) by anna nalick. it takes some controlled breathing so you have to know the song well before you audition. im also an alto and this is one of my top picks for auditions.

  5. You can try out Say-John Mayer or Reflection from the musical-Mulan(it goes a little high but try giving it a shot.

  6. There's a fine fine line - avenue Q

Mamma who bore me - spring awakening

  7. ***Save hot blondes from going extict! - Free blonde chat, No catch!***

  8. do not, i repeat do not do anythng that is not from a musical, it makes directors angry, and it pretty much garuntees that you wont get a part.... you would have to have a pretty amazing, and even then its a chance.

try as if we never said goodbye from sunset boulvard.

or happily ever after from once upn a mattress,

dont do anything from something over done, legally blonde, wicked, Rent, even les mis is ify

    hope i help :P

  9.  Tough lover if u can sing like me

  10. a really good song is The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson

  11. jar of hearts by christina perri

  12. you people are stupid.

  13. Yeah, if you do On my own, you're screwed. I did all that jazz and got a lead. You just need to listen to all the songs and decide which is best for your voice. I know from personal experience that Alto songs are hard to find. If you have a voice teacher, ask them for their opinion, or ask an adult who can sing. Pick a couple and sing those for the adult or teacher. (:

  14. I don't know what you're voice sounds like but my voice is sort of jazzy and songs that work for me are Honey, Honey from Mamma Mia, All That Jazz from Chicago, and Turn Back O Man from Godspell.  Some other songs that are good for altos are Mama Who Bore Me- Spring Awakening and Dividing Day- Light in the Piazza.  Don't do things that are super popular though like songs from Wicked or Leagally Blonde.  Even the songs I use from Chicago and Mamma Mia are frequently just too common to get me noticed.  Try doing something that is a little harder to find.

  15. Any carrie underwood song would be great i think!

  16. It makes me pretty angry that people are reccomending pop songs for trying out for a musical. NEVER DO THAT! it really bugs directors! Try "Beauty and the Beast" and "If Momma was Married" (from Gypsy)

  17. DEFINITLEY here come the sun by the Beatles!

  18. i have exactly the same problem :/ i can kinda sing on my own but my voice goes a bit screechy when the chorus moves up so for me i think all that jazz is a good song or maybe this time

  19.  to the person who said from musical susical its actually susical the musical i was in that prodution

  20.  Maybe you could tell us what audition? See, I am auditioning for grade 6 Drama Club and we have to find a song and a poem. But I personally like the song "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton, it's nice, but I'm not sure. I wish you good luck.!!

  21.  I would suggest 'I'm not that girl' from Wicked! the musical.

I did it for an audition a few months back, and it went great. There are some really low bits though..

  22. Glitter in the air, is a very good song for altos!!

  23. i really don't know.....but i am classified as a alto in choir and i looove amazing mayzie from the musical susical, i also love mayzie's reprise of how lucky you are!

  24. umm a good song i sing is "You Oughta Be Here With Me" from Big River try it

  25. All the people who said that "On My Own" was overdone....sooo true!! We did Les Miz at school, and it seemed everyone and their mom sang that song. By the end of auditions, we (the auditionees) were sooo sick of that song, and in the end, the girl who got the role of Eponine was a girl who didnt even sing the song at her audition.

Go with something classic that your musical directors will know and love....Rogers and Hammerstein is always good. South Pacific, Sound of Music, The King and I, Oklahoma....those are all the greats:) good luck on your audition and to anyone else auditioning. Do great!!! :)

  27. I know this goes a little high up but try "A Change In Me" from Beauty and the Beast

  28.  Jazz songs are always fun, and ALMOST everyone can do them :)

  29. I'd suggest "By My Side" from Godspell, its suppose to be done with harmony, but is perfectly fine to be done on its own, and its a great low song! Good luck!

  30. I have an alto voice and I aced at comps with Roxie from chicago I think you should try that :) It has a preety good belt too so yeaaa good luck

  31. how bout maybe this time- Cabaret? or somebody to love- Queen? theres also yellow submarine- Beatles and Last Midnight- Into the woods

I used Maybe this Time for my audition and i made it as eponine

  32. "Someone Else's Story" from the musical Chess

  33. umm well genie in a bottle is good by christina aguilera

  34. Let Me Sing and I'm Happy from White Christmas, this song has an awesome belt!

  35. i am an alto and a good song is HERE COMES THE SUN BY SHERYL CROW
and if you can go up a little KELLY CLARKSON'S BREAKAWAY but that is up there in some parts

  36. Okay, some of these people don't know what they're talking about. I'm an alto with a low range and a lot of the songs suggested above don't go just a little high up.
    #1.don't do wicked
#2. don't do "the altos lament", it's got really high parts
    goods songs:
"what i did for love" from a chorus line (if it's transposed right)
    "all that jazz" from Chicago
"somewhere over the rainbow" from the wizard of oz (it's really overused but it works if you really do have a nice voice)
"last midnight" from into the woods (make sure you research the song  or else you won't get what it's talking about)

  37. well, Fiona Apple is a beautiful example of an alto voice. Try "Paper Bag", or "Sullen Girl" "Sleep to Dream" and my all time favorite "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane (the singer Grace Slick has the awesomest voice. well, good luck

  38. Ummm well All THAT JAZZ from CHICAGO is really good if you have that sort of voice it's high in place by I sing in a Senior Chamber choir which I auditioned to get into and we sang this and everyone loved it. It's got a few high bits nut other wise if you can sustain the notes and get the right pitch, can project and have your clarity and diction right your sorted! Best of luch oxo Niki

  39. You should definetly do Born to Entertain from Ruthless the musical. Its perfect for a girl your age and it never gets to high but if you want to, its very easy to take an octave up. And a plus, there are great parts in the song that are easy to belt, which will really help. Ruthless is a popular musical, but nobody uses songs from it anymore. Good luck(:

  40. Maybe On my own from Les Miserables.... But that may be too high :P I would suggest giving it a shot! :)

  41. Need audition songs for hairspray...it cant be from a musical 60' s pop songs.

  49. Maybe This Time- Cabaret (careful, it's only in the 1972 movie version of the musical)
    The Wizard and I- Wicked
So Much Better- Legally Blonde the Musical (runs a bit high and the last note is held out for 10 seconds)
My New Philosophy- You're a Good Man Charlie Brown

  50. Love No Limit- Mary J blige

  51. a great song which is often overlooked is 'don't rain on my parade' from funny girl, absolutely amazing when sung well but you have to give it 100% energy and requires a belting-type voice, go into falsetto and you are, effectively screwed ^^

  52. something really unknown - "All I've Got" from Silver's Ghost - great comedy and there's a version by Kate Williams aviable on i-Tunes, AND a backing-only copy, too.
