Aston Villa: Is James Milner leaving Villa Park

Aston Villa midfielder James Milner will have a lot to consider when he returns from the World Cup as Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea continue to express there interest in securing a deal, but Martin O’Neil is refusing to accept anything below £30million.

Villa were the club that provided Milner with his big break when he was still at Newcastle. Since his move to Villa Park his become quite an important part of the team, and has made 72 appearances, scoring 10 goals.

Villa legend Tony Morley says “If I was James Milner I would stay at Villa and show some loyalty,”

“He has had a great season, got in the England squad and now all of a sudden it seems like he wants to leave because Man City have come in.

City have already tried to lure the 24-year-old with a £20million bid which had been rejected. The owners at Eastlands aren’t willing to match the asking price and it has been reported will only go up to £28million.

Morley also added “But ultimately whatever happens, no player is bigger than the club. Greats like Gareth Barry, Dennis Mortimer, Gordon Cowans, they were all replaced.

“I could understand Gareth Barry leaving as he had at least put in ten years service for the club and at 29 wanted to win things.

“But Milner has hardly put in any service. And who’s to say he will get into Man City’s team with the players they have?

“Does he want to be a star in Villa’s team and have a chance of winning things or earn more money at City, maybe sitting on the bench?

“I know what I would rather do. Out of personal pride I would rather play every game.”

If Milner leaves, what chance has Martin O’Neill got?

He has lost Barry last year and now he might possibly lose Milner.
