Arsenal and Manchester United serious contenders for Premier League title
Arch rivals Arsenal and Manchester United are serious Premier League title contenders. The difference between these top two teams in the league table is of just one point. However, Arsenal have played a game more than Manchester United. Table toppers Manchester United have secured 57 points from 26 games. Placed second on the table, Arsenal have played 27 games and secured 56 points. Manchester United and Arsenal will be playing their second league match on May 1, and that can potentially decide the title. The teams will meet at the Emirates Stadium and both teams will be hoping to maintain top fitness.
Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes the gap between the top two teams and the rest of the pack (the third team is seven points behind Arsenal) leaves only two real contenders – the top two.
Discussing the possibility of the other teams being in the run, including Manchester City which is currently third, Sir Alex Ferguson said the gap was too much to be filled easily. He elaborated his stance, “It won't be easy for them to come back from however many points deficit they've got.” He added there would be only two teams left to fight for the title as always, and this year it will be Manchester United and Arsenal. He said, “Arsenal or ourselves will win it. You come towards the end and there are always two teams who break away. That’s the way it’s looking at the moment.”
The immensely experienced manager said that 82 points may win them the title. He is confident of scoring 82 points from the remaining games, but the beauty of the game is that one can never be certain about anything in the Premier League. Compared to Arsenal, Manchester United have tougher fixtures remaining in their campaign. On the other hand, Arsenal are scheduled to play Liverpool and Tottenham.
