Army promotion question.......?

Here's my situation. I am prior service with a 14year break in service.I came back in at the beginning of this year as a PFC. Now I was thinking with my prior service I would have to only do the 6 months required for TIG then I would be able to pin on SPC. Now my command is telling me that my break-in-service was too long I have to start from scratch. In looking I found nothing about it. Can anyone shed some light on the reference they are talking about?

  1. I have been retired for a couple of three ears BUT, while still in and working as a Personnel Sergeant I found answers to promotion questions in AR 600-200.  If my memoy serves me right the enlistment portion deaing with PS (prior service) was in AR 601-280 (?)

The best answer is to get to your PSNCO and have them show you the regulations dealing with enlistment, reenlistment, and promotions.

You might qualify for advancement under Civilian Acquired Skills if you came back in a field in which you have demonstrated knowledge and proficiency as a civilian.

The Army Regulations are not classified material so pick them up formulate your thoughts on what they guide you with and then ask questions.  If you find that they are wrong, then they must (by regulation) correct it or offer you a discharge.

  2. I was reserves, when I went in and they started my SPC rank all over, but I got the PAY for prior service, I was being paid a SGT's pay and had dependants as well.

  3. Hey bro check out AR 600-8-19 Thats the army promotion Regs. I feel your pain I got screwed on my 6 this month so i feel your pain. To be honest with you its really up to your unit for e-3 to e-4. they really dont have to give you your e-4 till 2 year TIS but its been awhile. Check out the reg though if you find nothing then theirs your proof. let them know you looked it up in that AR. they might be impressed that you took the time to look it up and give it to you.
