Are K2 Apache Recon 181 cm skis good in moguls?

I am an advanced skier that can ski any run anywhere with confidence. I just got new k2 apache recon's and I want to be a good bump skier. Will these skis be at least decent in the moguls?

  1. I would not categorize the Recon as necessarily a "bump ski" but because it is not a burly stiff ski you will do just fine in the bumps. The Apache Recon is a great cruiser it is a smooth feeling ski and you will find that you can ski at a wide range of speeds and conditions with confidence that your ski will not let you down.

  2. It's billed as an "all mountain ski", so it will probably be fine in the bumps.

I used to pound bumps all day in my younger years (I'm surprised my knees still function), and coached a few bump lessons in my time. Heck, my bump ski of choice as a teenager were a pair of 210 Elan GS skis that were well broken in. It's not the ski (unless you are an Olympic athlete), it's the skier. I don't know where your skiing is now, but if you want to be a good bump skier, you have to have your fundamental stance solid. And then there are specific tips and tricks in addition to your fundamental stance.

Even though you bill yourself as an advanced skier, if you want to be a bump skier, I suggest grabbing one lesson (especially if you haven't had a lesson for a very long time). Have the instructor check out your stance, and then get you in the bumps if your stance is good. That's the easy way.

Or you can do what I did, and pound them all day long for 3 years, then become a ski instructor and truly learn how to ski them by getting help from a bump professional (and competition judge)!
