All-Star Derrick Rose to donate $1000 to Japan for every point scored in Friday’s game
The All-Star guard, Derrick Rose, who has led the Chicago Bulls to the summit of the Eastern Conference with his point scoring prowess on the court this season, showed the NBA world that his brilliance is not limited to the game only.
The point guard, who is the only player in the league challenging LeBron James’ hunt for a MVP hat-trick this year, surely became Japan’s MVP when he announced his plans to help the earthquake and Tsunami victims. The superstar has decided to donate $1000 for every point that he lands on Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies to help the people of Japan. The lives of the victims have completely collapsed following a massive natural calamity.
Rose, ensured that he made his pledge count and he landed a game-high 24 points in a hard fought 99-96 win over the Grizzlies. This makes the donation amount come up to a total of $24000. The sum will be submitted to Direct Relief International which is a U.S based non-profit organization that ensures immediate health needs of people devastated by the Tsunami and Earthquake.
Expressing his views about the plight of the Japanese people, Rose said, “When disaster strikes we are all on the same team. Right now we’re all pulling for the people of Japan.  Through the good work of Direct Relief International and other organizations in this country, we need to step up and help however we can.”
Derrick has been a beast on the court this season. The sharp-shooting guard who is only in his second professional year has already showcased the maturity and the skill level that has catapulted him into a pool of elite player in the league. In fact, with only 10 games left in the season, Rose is well on his way to land the MVP title.
Not only has he charmed fans with his on-court personality, Rose has also single handedly propelled his franchise to the first spot in the East. The Chicago Bulls currently have a two game lead over the Boston Celtics and are already tipped as one of the most formidable contenders for the championship title this season.
After enchanting the nostalgia of a Championship in the Windy City, the young superstar has also set an example with humanitarian side. His donations will not only provide moral support to the victims of Japan but it will also encourage many others to come up with contributions.
The star power guard is determined to spearhead his team in the upcoming playoffs and the huge discussion on Most Valuable Player will soon come to an end.   Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said this week that Rose stands obvious chances to nab the award. Even the Hall of Famer Doc Rivers supported the All-Star. Even though Rose might show some modesty, the consensus extensively supports him.
