Alan King’s Desert Joe favourite for West Norfolk Foxhounds & North Norfolk Harriers Novices’ Handicap Hurdle
Alan King’s trained horse, Desert Joe, is expected to take victory in the West Norfolk Foxhounds & North Norfolk Harriers Novices’ Handicap Hurdle in England on Friday, February 17, 2012.
Desert Joe has been given a starting price of 3 to 1 for the event, as he has done well in a couple of hurdles he took part in. Although he failed to win any of them, he did not finish outside top three.
The six-year-old gelding finished as runner up in his first ever hurdle at Towcester, last year. He then went to Newbury, where he managed to take the third place. This result was also not bad, considering the fact that he was up against some quality runners.
Due to these performances, King will be upbeat about the chances of his horse, who is the bookmakers’ favourite for today’s hurdle. He will be partnered by Charlie Huxley, jockey who has earned 30 victories in such events until now.
Things will not be easy for Desert Joe, as he is expected to be given a solid fight by Bobcatbilly. The Ian Williams trained gelding will enter today’s hurdle with a starting price of 4 to 1.
The six-year-old horse has been unable to win any hurdle out of the two he took part in. His best finish was a third place finish at Towcester, last year. However, today is a very good chance for him to bring up his maiden victory.
Bobcatbilly will be partnered by jockey, J. Hodson, who is trying to make a name in horseracing. He is relatively new to the sport, but has managed to win a hurdle once out of seven attempts.
The punters will also be keeping their eyes on Floreat, trained by veteran Nicky Henderson. He has been given a rate of 9 to 2 and has the speed and skills to match the best in the business.
The five-year-old gelding has only taken part in a couple of hurdles until now, but has been unable to win any of them. However, he did make an impression in his maiden hurdle, where he finished runner up.
Overall, the competition will be a tough one. There are also some other very good runners taking part in the hurdle today, but it will not be easy for any of them to challenge the top three favourites.
