My brother gave me a german rottweiler she has champion bloodlines in her. Dog has AKC papers but not in my name. My brother kept the AKC papers. I've raised the dog for 3 yrs I bought the dog food, I paid for the obedience training, I paid all the vet bills, and paid for rabies vaccination license.I paid for it all no help from him. Me and my brother got into an argument so we don't talk anymore. My younger brother told me my brother is coming for the dog. All I want is the dog's paper's and in my name so it won't come back on me later in the long run.

  1. If you have the vet bills and where you sent her to obedience training and such you should have a case here. I dont see how he could take her from you. Does anyone remember him giving you the dog? Maybe you get them to write something out. As far as the papers, I really dont think that will matter since you have taken care of her. Best wishes!

  2. If you have had the dog for three years then the dog legally is yours and your brother can't take him or he can get into trouble. If you are just having the dog for a pet them papers are not really important. hope this helped

  3. contact your vet and ask for a receipt of all the health care they've given your dog in the last 3 yrs, your name should appear on the bills.

  4. If he has the papers you may be in trouble.

If you have your receipts and a whitness that he gave you the dog you may be in luck.

    Always get the papers.

  5. I don't think it matters if the AKC papers are in his name.  In most counties you must license the dog - did you do this?  If you paid for the license and you've paid vet bills (which would be on record), I would think it is easy enough to prove in court whose dog it is.  She should also be microchipped in your name (which if you haven't done, I would do ASAP - your vet can microchip her and it is relatively cheap and extremely fast).

Though, on a personal level, you might call your brother up and get to the bottom of the issue.  If he's angry enough to try to take your dog, maybe you should consider apologizing (even if you were right all along!) just to put it "right" and ensure the safety of your pooch.  You don't have to actually BE sorry, just make nice to get over the hurdle.

  6. ~ AS LONG AS VET BILLS AND LINCES IS IN YOUR NAME YOU HAVE PROOF OF OWNERSHIP FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS. HE CAN'T JUST COME TAKE THE DOG. ONLY ISSUE IS IF YOU WANTED TO BREED THE DOG YOU HAVE NO PAPERS. OTHER THN TAHT DOG IS YOURS.

  7. You have a legal issue here. You have raised and cared for the dog but the dog is legally your brothers. You can take him to court and get the papers. All you need is the vet bills and receipts from the dogs care to prove you have been the real owner of the dog. Unfortunately that may be the only way to get the papers in your name.

  8. Of course she is a German Rott. ALL Rotts are. How far back in the pedigree are the "Champions"? If you love the dog don't worry about the papers right now. If your brother is pulling this stunt because of an argument he is acting very immature. It also sounds like the breeding is not a quality one he is just being spiteful. His having the papers doesn't mean anything. She is your dog and you have documentation to prove it. IE. vet bils, etc. Just tell him she is yours and he will need to sue you for her. When you win, you can then sue him for all your legal expenses.

If you really care about her, DON'T breed her.

  9. I'd be more concerned that your brother is going to take the dog then in trying to get some papers that don't mean chit unless you are planning on breeding your dog (which you didn't even say anything about).  If your brother does try to take the dog, I believe you would have a good case against him, as long as you have all the vet bills, etc. to document that you have cared for this dog for the past 3 years.  Get some legal counsel, who may also be able to help you get the papers on this dog.

  10. You do not need the AKC papers to prove that the dog belongs to you. I don't know the animal laws where you are but here the animal shelters only have to hold a dog for 8 days before they can be adopted out to new owners. If he didn't collect the dog within the 8 days of giving it to you then legal the dog is your. That is the position here but you will need to check out the laws in your particular country. As you have had the dog for so long this should be enough to prove ownership

  11. Tell your brother if he wants the dog he is going to have to pay for her.- the amount of what you spent on her OR he can give you the papers and its the end of the story.

Even with registration papers in his name you have been the sole provider for this dog for 3 years and in the eyes of the law her owner not him.
