2012 Flypower Bali Open: Elizabeth Matindas overwhelms Aida Arum Amanah in quarter-finals
Women’s Singles campaigner Elizabeth Matindas played flawless badminton in the quarter-finals of Djarum Sirnas Flypower Bali Open and marched into the semi-final round on November 8, 2012.
The spirited Indonesian shuttler unseated Aida Arum Amanah with an impressive result of 21-19 and 21-19.
This hard fought tussle remained in full swing for 38 minutes as both contenders displayed great fighting spirit in the local badminton arena of Denpasar.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and their honest effort was applauded by the audience.
However, Elizabeth survived this battle by prevailing in both segments of this showdown. She surged into the semi-finals where the fifth seeded player Berliyan Sudrajat will be waiting for her.
Elizabeth, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, has alarmed all the contestants with an unbeatable run in the preliminary rounds.
In the round of eight, she employed her vital experience and confounded a higher ranked challenger.
She laid the foundation of her dominance immediately in the beginning of first set and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
Initially, she took some time to read her rival’s strategy but then couple of productive rallies boosted her confidence.
She finished first half of the set with a respectable score position and showed commendable fighting spirit in the ending part of the game.
Meanwhile, Aida Arum made some fatal mistakes which ultimately cost her vital match point. She made every effort to come out of her opponent’s influence but knelt down after reading 19-21 score on the board.
The following game proved just a replay of previous one as Elizabeth kept a low profile in the beginning and stunned her competitor with a striking knock in the second half.
On the other hand, Aida Arum let many valuable points slip from her hands and allowed the opposing shuttler to seal a straight-set victory.
Elizabeth capitalised this situation in third quarter of the set and tipped the scale in her favour with few consecutive points. She carried this flow in next couple of rallies and locked the honour with an overwhelming total of 21-19.
