2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – New York Rangers defeat the New Jersey Devils 3-1
The 112th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New Jersey Devils up against the New York Rangers. The match took place at the Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers this past Sunday. There were around 18,000 fans
that came to witness the match as the both teams were hoping for a dominating performance with a win. The 1st period was very tough and goalless as but the home team was able to win the match eventually as they scored 3 goal compared to 1 goal of
the New Jersey Devils.
1st Period
The 1st period provided is with 20 minutes of play that saw frequent change in momentum between the two teams as they were chasing a goal to take the lead.
The home team was the impressive of the two teams at the start of the period as they fired shots regularly and came up with brilliant pieces of play. They not only showed good skill with the puck but they displayed some excellent skills, while combining
with other players with the one-two passing and firing a venomous shot at the end.
After the first 10 minute of the match, the momentum shifted in favour of the New Jersey Devils as they started to come up with good pieces of play too. They also showed some good pin point and crisp passing. The through passers were the main element of
entertainment during the period.
But when the period neared its end, the home team started to make an impact once again getting past the opposing defence again and again. But the problem was with the finishing for both teams. Neither of the teams was able to find any goal during the period.
The period ended with the home team firing 17 shots on goal and the New Jersey Devils making 10 goal attempts but there were no goals.
2nd Period
The 2nd period started off in an extravagant manner for the home team and they scored in the 2nd minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Michal Rozsival from a powerful strike from 40 feet.
The home took the foot off the gas after scoring and let the game settle after the 1st goal of the match was scored. Both teams started to gain confidence and the when the away team started to make attacks, the New York Rangers scored once again
to establish the 2 goals lead. The goal was scored by Ryan Callahan through a simple tip in from close range.
The New York Rangers maintained a very tight defence after this that restricted the opposing team to their half during the last 8 minutes of the period. The strength at the back and from was so much that the opposing team couldn’t even shoot from long range.
The period ended with the New York Rangers in the lead with the score 2-0. The New York Rangers scored out of the 12 goal attempts they made and the New Jersey Devils just made 6 goal attempts with no goals.
3rd Period
The 3rd period was relatively slow and didn’t see much happen during the start of the period. The home and away teams looked to access their opposition and started to attack once again after the 10th minute.
However, this time it was the away team, New Jersey Devils who scored in the 15th minute that gave them hope of a comeback. The goal was scored by Ilya Kovalchuck from 7 feet through a brilliant flick shot.
However, the New York Rangers was the more determined of the two to win the match and they scored once again in the 18th minute to seal the match. The goal was scored by Brandon Dubinsky after his 150 feet shot found the back of the net after
being deflected. The period and the game ended with the score 3-1 in favour of the New York Rangers.
"You can hear it. It's a lot of people screaming. You definitely can hear it," said Callahan, whose first goal of the season in the second period was the game-winner.
"It's unfortunate. I know it gets under my skin a bit when it happens.”
