  1. I confirm the answer above that suggests spraying the carburetor with carb cleaner.  I have a 1998 Dakota V8 that also wouldn't idle and carb cleaner did the trick for me also.


  2. Hey, I have a 1996 w/ a 5.9 and I was having the same issue and I tried a few different things before I finally found the problem. I swapped out the Throttle Positon Sensor and that made it idle much stronger however it continued to die at lights and on startup etc. I removed the airbox on top of the carb and got in there with some standard carb cleaner and removed a ton of gunky buildup from inside the carburetor barrels. That was two weeks ago and it's been running strong as ever since.  good luck
