What do you think about the kids going back to school?

I have 5 kids (13, 6, 4, 3, and 1). The kids are starting school tomorrow! My daughters (3 and 4) started first day of preschool Monday (they do a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday program). Tomorrow my oldest two (13 and 6) start.

I'm sad and happy at the same time. The best part for me is only have 1-3 (depending on the day) kids to worry about. It's a lot quieter and I get more 1-on-1 time with them. Honestly, the worst part for me is making lunch. I refuse to let them buy the junky food at school, but I HATE making them lunch. It's just 1 more thing for me to do. What about you moms?

  1. My daughter starts first grade next week. I am a little nervous because she is starting a new school. She went to Catholic School for Pre-K and Kindergarten. She will be going to public school this year. She is excited and nervous at the same time. I make lunch for my daughter most of the time the night before and my mom gets it ready in the morning. My husband and I are both teachers, so we have a different schedule than our daughter. She stays with my parents(who live on the same property as us) before school and when she gets home from school.

  2. I'm not a mom...but I'm so thankful that the annoying kid in the apartment above mine might be going to bed earlier...so no foot stomping above my head at all hours of the night...YAY!!!

My grandma was always sad when we went back to school because she enjoyed having us around.  When people would say, Aren't you glad that they're going back to school?  She would say, NO! I enjoy having my kids with me!

  3. I think it's perfectly normal to be happy and sad.

I certainly understand that conflict.  My boys start next week (aged 5 and 7, going into Kinder and 2nd).  I am looking forward to having quiet moments at home.  I will be able to accomplish more around the house.  It will be nice to zip through the grocery store pushing my own cart.  I'll also miss them.  I'll miss laying on the floor and playing Trouble or Candyland.  I'll miss cuddling and reading with my oldest while the youngest is napping.  I think it's all part of being a mom.

  4. Well, my mom cried when I first started kindergarten, then when my brother started two years later, she just shook her head and said "they're growing up so fast". We started school on the 11th of this month, and it really didn't phase my mom. Now that's she's working, which she didn't do when we were younger, it's basically a routine to watch 30 minutes to an hour of tv a night with her, and sometimes eat supper together. Other than that, we don't really communicate much unless it's on Sundays, or school/extra curricular/work isn't occupying all the time.

  5. For some reason it has been very HARD this year - I guess because my little one started kindergarten. Today was their 3rd day and I have cried every morning after I dropped them off. I miss them both.

Guess it's hard to believe my little guy is old enough for school :(

  6. What do I think about the kids going back to school?

I think they need to hurry. Another week is too long.
