Olympique de Marseille coach Didier Deschamps pessimistic about signing a new player – Ligue 1 news
Didier Deschamps, Olympique de Marseille tactician, has revealed that Les Phoceens might not be able to sign a new player before the end of the transfer window this season.
Marseille have managed to scrap only three points in three games of the 2011/12 Ligue 1 campaign, failing to improve on poor performances from last season.
The former Juventus coach is not satisfied by the team’s performance and has turned to the transfer window for possible solutions.
Speaking about the team’s performance, the 42-year-old Frenchman was quoted saying, “It's not enough. We could have had more points from the matches we played. This is not what we had expected. It's always the same problem to find a right balance.”
He added that he did not know if this season’s team is better than the last but maintained that he had a competitive team.    
The former AS Monaco coach did however express his satisfaction on the activities in this summer’s transfer window. Deschamps said that the club had to loosen the burden on the wage budget, so they cut lose the players who had played less and were over thirty
years of age. He added, "It was according to our means, by recruiting players with a league-level wages."
Talking about the transfer status of midfielder Lucho Gonzalez, the French tactician said, “I do not think he will move.” He admitted that although many suitors have contacted Stade Velodrome, but none of them came with a proposal that suited the Alps club’s
financial demands. The Bayonne-born coach also added that he is yet to see a concrete offer with just a week left in the closure of the transfer window.
