Nathan Hauritz and Mike Hussey ruled out of ICC World Cup
Australia have suffered another setback: Michael Hussey and Nathan Hauritz have been ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Cup, 2011 that gets underway later this month.
Callum Ferguson and Jason Krejza have been added as replacements to the 15-man squad, which heads to India on Wednesday to defend their title.
Hauritz dislocated his shoulder, while Hussey was forced out with an Achilles tendon injury. The pair hurt themselves during the One Day International series against England, which the Kangaroos won 6-1.
Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors said, "The National Selection Panel has determined that the best strategy to ensure a successful campaign is for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to enter the tournament with a fully fit squad of fifteen from the first game.”
Krejza, who made his debut in the recently concluded ODI series against England, impressed the national selectors with his wicket taking ability and aggression. The off-spin bowler grabbed 2 wickets for 53 runs.
Ferguson, who has replaced Hussey, has been impressive in his short ODI career, amassing 660 runs at an average of 44 in 28 matches. However, Hussey’s omission from the squad is a big blow for Australia, as he has been the best finisher in the game.
Hilditch said, "Callum has an excellent record in one-day international cricket and played well in the one-day game against England in Sydney recently. We think he'll play well in sub-continental conditions.”
There is some good news for the Kangaroos, as Ricky Ponting has been declared fit for cricket’s flagship event. The team physio http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 has revealed that Ponting has been batting regularly in the nets, and will be fully fit to lead his team in the Subcontinent.
