Is there any type of invisible electric fence that you can put outside horses fence that will shock anything that passes it? Im concerned about a recent wild animmal outbreak in the area. It needs to be invisible and run around the WHOLE fence and shock ANYTHING that goes past it. BUT, be able to shut it off so you can get the horse.. etc. Is there anything KIND OF like it? please help. WHAT PRICE ARE WE LOOKING AT? About 1/2 an acre

  1. Invisible fences work because the animal is wearing the shocker which is triggered by the buried electric wire.  So your wild animals aren't wearing the shock box, no way are they going to get shocked.

What you need is a traditional electric wire set up sold at feed supply stores, fence stores, etc.  The wire is stretched around your property on poles or the fence with insulators keep the wire off the fence or pole....you don't want the wire to contact the ground, either directly or thru the pole.  Then you need the charger at the beginning of the wire which is plugged into an electrical supply.  The charger sends the charge down the wire.  To get past the wire, you have areas where you have insulated handles and just hook the metal top of the handle over the wire, or unhook to go inside.

I see two problems.  First is if the wire is away from your fence and some human comes along and gets zapped, they probably won't die , but will be very unhappy and may sue your socks off.  The wires are hung on the fence, inside and the whole fence is posted to warn people there is a wire.

Second is what I learned with my dogs.  Some guys are so smart, they sense the wire before they ever touch it.  Thus they avoid it all together.  This may work for you..."Ooops, wire here I'll keep going."  Or "hey a wire, we need to find another way in."

I don't know the wild animals you need to keep out.  You might want to take with the local farm and ranch supply store in your area about what others in your area are doing for protection.  Bears respect the wire, cougars don't.

  2. Invisible fences work because you put a collar on your own animal and it shocks the dog in the neck when it gets too close.

A regular electric fence would work- and it won't hurt your horses. It is a very mild shock. Annoying, but not a big deal. People have been using them for years to keep cattle on their property. You put a plastic/rubber handle on it to make a gate at some point.

I think I paid around $100 for mine- and you can always add more wire.

  3. I don't think the invisible fences was meant for large animals like horses and cows.  You're not going to find a collar big enough for them to wear

  4. Like the one on 'LOST'?  Wow that would be cool.  Not going to find one you could afford. Would require excessive voltages to actually work.

Get an inexpensive electric fence.  They make they so its just one or 2 wires and they are not noticable at all.  Not all that expensive.
