IPL 4: Mumbai v Pune – Batsmen to watch out for in the Mumbai side
Pune Warriors and Mumbai Indians will have an encounter in the 44th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
With respect to their win-loss ratio, both the teams are poles apart. Pune are placed at the bottom of the table with four points, winning two of their eight matches so far. Mumbai on the other hand, are at the top of the table with 12 points, having won
six matches out of the eight.
Like Pune, Mumbai also took an impressive start in the tournament with two consecutive wins but they lost their third match to debutant Kochi Tuskers
Following this defeat, regained their momentum for the next matches and earned three successive victories against Pune, Chennai and Deccan Chargers.
In their clash against Royals, Sachin Tendulkar’s side faced the second defeat of the tournament, while in the eighth match they enjoyed a seven-run win against Punjab
Mumbai has an excellent combination of batsmen in their squad, led by the Indian batting maestro, Tendulkar.
Playing in all eight matches, Tendulkar has scored 327 runs at an average of 65.4, the highest by any player in the ongoing tournament. Owing to his marvellous batting and numerous records, he is considered the best ODI batsman currently.
The veteran also played a significant role in the recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011.
After Tendulkar, by scoring 63, 53 and 51 runs
Rohit Sharma is the third highest run-scorer for his side, having amassed 221 runs in six innings with an average of 73.66. His performance was outstanding against CSK, where he scored 87 runs off 48 balls, helping his side to an eight-run victory. Sharma’s
performance was also outstanding against DC, where he scored an unbeaten 56 off 34, again guiding his side to a 37-run win.
On the other hand, Andrew Symonds has scored 112 runs while playing in five innings at an average of 112.00.
With this powerful batting line-up, Mumbai are expected to come back with greater strength. In addition, their previous victory over Pune Warriors would have boosted their confidence.
