How I should start Web hosting myself?

Hello!

My name is Assaf Lasry and I am a programmer analyst. I am currently in the process of building an interactive website and rather than have the site hosted with another company, I would like to host it myself in the company where I work. In other words, I would like to get a server that will be a completely stand-alone, have the site on it and everyone can access it. Now , I'm not quite too familiar on what should I do in order for this to happen, but I was wondering if you could provide me with any kind of information on where should I start and how I go about in setting up the server.
