Notts County FC appoint Paul Ince as manager
Notts County FC appointed their fourth manager since 2009 on Thursday, 28 October, announcing that former Manchester United player Paul Ince will take over the post from Craig Short, who left the club on 24 October.
Swedish coach Hans Backe was appointed as Ian McParland's replacement in October 2009 after Munto Finance, a consortium owned by Qadbak Investments, completed their takeover of the club four months earlier.
But Backe, who was backed by then-director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson, resigned two months later after only nine games.
Despite the tumultuous circumstances, the Magpies were promoted to League 1 under manager Steve Cotterill at the end of last season, after which Short was appointed manager.
Ince now joins the club after a second spell as manager of Milton Keynes Dons during the 2009-10 season.
"There were a number of high calibre applications for the position and it was encouraging to see just how attractive a proposition managing Notts County remains to some very prestigious names in the world of football management," chairman Ray Trew said after
the announcement was made.
Ince well suited to the club's ambitions
Trew added that Ince, who led MK Dons to their first League Two title in 2008 before taking over Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League, is a good fit for the club.
"Paul has a wealth of experience as a player and a solid track record as a manager in the Football League, making him the obvious choice for me when we began our search for a new manager."
Ince, who won two Premier League titles with United during his playing career, will begin working with the team on Friday, 29 October.
"When we met Paul it quickly became clear that he was the ideal candidate, he'd done his homework, had some big ideas and was ready to get stuck in straightaway."
