A few decades ago, Montreal was the largest city in Canada, but threats of separatism caused a massive exodus of anglos and their large successful businesses. Today Toronto is the largest Canadian city and poor Montreal is just that --- POOR! Quebec with all its natural resources and 'advanced' infrastructure relies on the rest of Canada to support it! HAVE other French speaking cities passed Montreal in size (population)?

  1. Kinshasa and Abidjan are both larger. The dispute seems to be over whether Kinshasa is a French-speaking city. Abidjan, which has a population of around 5 million people, is more French speaking, and surely deserves to be called a francophone city in which French is the most widely used language.
