Australian Rugby Union comes to terms with Players Association regarding RWC bonuses - Rugby News
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has finally reached to an agreement with the Rugby Union Players Association regarding the distribution of Rugby World Cup 2011 bonuses. ARU told the media on July 15 that its players have seen eye to eye with the union for
Rugby world Cup winning bonuses. ARU revealed that players have happily reduced their pool matches fee in order to get greater benefits if they lift the Webb Ellis Trophy this year.
The Wallabies players have agreed to receive $10,000 for each round match of the cup. Earlier, Australian Rugby Union was scheduled to pay $13,000 to each player for the pool matches of the largest event of the year. Furthermore, if the Wallabies team wins
the final of RWC 2011, each of the 30-members squad will get lion’s share of $110,000 as a bonus.
However, the bonus winning proposal can only be fruitful for the Wallabies players if they manage to gain a seat in the final of the world showpiece. Otherwise, no incentives will be given to the players.
The Australian Rugby Union chief executive, John O’Neil, welcomed the decision of the players to agree to the bonus winning scheme. He said that the offer will further encourage the players to win world championships for their country. He stated that, “Winning
the Rugby World Cup would have enormous flow on benefits for the game in this country, so it is only fair the players have an opportunity to receive a tangible benefit.”
He also said that $110,000 is a handsome amount and Australian players have an opportunity to cash in on the prize. O’Neil concluded his remarks while saying that, “We believe this agreement gives the players an opportunity to be well and deservedly rewarded
if they achieve the ultimate and return from New Zealand as Rugby World Cup champions.”
Rugby World Cup 2011 is kicking off this year in New Zealand and all major rugby teams are taking various steps to motivate their players to lift the title. Earlier, the hosts, New Zealand, had also offered the same kind of incentives to their players if
they won the forthcoming championship.
